At Woman Centered we know you are amazing! You are a brilliant, beautiful, and powerful woman filled with love and creativity. So you deserve to nurture yourself, honor your unique voice and use it to effect profound change within and around you! Sometimes, however, we lose our way. Our voice is silenced at home, work, school, or in the world around you. It is so easy for us to lose sight of what is important in our lives, what we need to feel fulfilled and joyful. At Woman Centered, however, we offer a multitude of opportunities, resources, and a community to support you to grow and become more of your incredible self!

Through our extensive educational and inspirational resources, action-oriented guidebooks and worksheets, live events such as on-the-ground and online support groups, workshops, and special events, you will learn to find your own personal freedom while taking care of your family, friends, communities and world at large.

Mission

It is the mission of Woman Centered to:

  • Create an online space and on-the-ground community that is for women, by women, and about women – a space to speak our minds and make our voices heard all while effecting social change!
  • Share our thoughts, life experiences, challenges, beliefs, and information to facilitate our own personal growth, as well as growth of other women.
  • Raise consciousness and awareness about women’s physical, emotional, sexual, intellectual, and spiritual well being.
  • Provide progressive, active, and empowering resources for women to connect to our selves, each other, and the world at large.

History

Woman Centered, originally founded in 2008 as the Women’s Collaborative Circle, was founded in the spirit of several social and political movements that recognize women have great strength, inner resources, power, and wisdom to generate growth for themselves and others. Woman Centered was especially inspired by the feminist consciousness-raising movement of the 1960’s and early 1970’s, as well as more recent global and postmodern feminist movements that continues to inform the holistic needs of women today.

While the consciousness-raising movement began with the recognition among women that they were disconnected from one another and needed to reconnect and share in their common experiences; the postmodern and global movements currently recognize women in their distict and diverse multiple identities worldwide. It is through these standpoints that women over time continue to realize that we are not alone in our experiences and that what we may believe to be “individual” challenges are often shared as a common sentiment among one another.

Today many women still hold this belief. Therefore, creating a space that is open to women of all ages, races, ethnicities, sexual identities, religions, languages, nationalities, and social and economic backgrounds is necessary for sharing the journey of womanhood and the process of personal and collective freedom and awakening.

Won’t you please join us in becoming Woman Centered!

About Carly Goldberg – Founder

I am Carly Goldberg, DSW, LCSW, founder of Woman Centered – a premier platform for progressive feminist thought leadership that inspires personal development and social change.

As a doctoral trained clinical social worker, social activist, psychotherapist, professor, wife, mother, girlfriend, and daughter, I embrace being a woman in today’s world from multiple and intersecting perspectives. As such, I am a fierce advocate for women living their best and fullest life around the globe.

I founded Woman Centered because I deeply believe in the power of women, change, education, and community. As a woman engaged in numerous and various roles in my life, I know first hand (and continue to learn the hard way) that we can not “have it all” but we can have what we need when we most need it – and that there is always tomorrow! That is why I am committed to Woman Centered offering multiple opportunities for connection, personal development, education, and social action.

Dr. Carly Goldberg

In addition to being the founder of Women Centered, I am a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist, who specializes in the psychological development and emotional wellness of women. In my work as a psychotherapist I work together with women to learn about the nature of her current difficulties, such as any experience of anxiety, sadness, fear, isolation, overwhelm, shame, or confusion, and explore your strengths to facilitate insight and growth. Together we can work to ensure that your voice is heard and supported, even in the midst of depression, anxiety, and stress.

As a therapist, I provide individual and group therapy from a psychodynamic and feminist perspective. I specialize in working with women who are experiencing life transitions and difficulties in education, career, motherhood, relationships, grief and loss, illness, and/or sexual and gender identity. I also specialize in working with women’s trauma and traumatic stress.

I hold a master’s degree in social work from New York University’s Silver School of Social Work and a doctorate in clinical social work from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy and Practice.

In addition to my clinical work, I an am an adjunct lecturer in the School of Social Policy and Practice at the University of Pennsylvania’s MSW program.
